My 14 year old son began telling me about Gus Fink about 1 year ago. A friend of his had shown him some artwork for sale on eBay by Gus Fink which resulted in an instant fan for this unusual artist.
We soon discovered that Gus Fink is actually a local artist and has an art studio just 2 miles from our home – and the studio is in the same building that my children have music lessons. Consequently we found our selves avidly peeking through glass windows (having to maneuver around various art works taped onto the windows with masking tape) into a studio that well represents the soul of this unusual artist. Inside the studio we saw some art toys that caused both my son and I to hop around in excitement. They were just so cool in such a pitiful “I really need a hug” way.
Further investigating led us to find that Gus Fink has some very interesting fans. One fan being the co-founder, Michael Perry, of the awesome toy company, Rocket USA. Michael also found Gus Finks’ art on eBay. Rocket USA has teamed up with Gus Fink to bring his art to life in the form of Boogily Heads, Stitch Kittens, Puff Dogs and Bo0gily Bunnies. Each character has a name ,a history and is imbued with unique personality.
A customer review of the Stitch Kitten “Nubbs” by Gus Fink sums up my response to these quirky toys: “I bought this silly little cat as an Xmas gift for my daughter (grown) who loves off beat things. When I opened it, I myself fell in love with the pathetic little thing and almost decided to keep it.”
To get to my point, you can’t go wrong with a Gus Fink toy as a gift. The art toys created by Gus Fink and Rocket USA are tween and teen nirvana! For those of us old enough to know who Nirvana was – Gus Fink art toys are pretty fun for us too!
